Should Electronic Cigarettes Be Banned from Public Places?

E-Cigs are not dangerous to others, they do not contain tobacco (only tobacco flavoring) and there is no smell or smoke involved emitted from the device.  There has been a recent hullabaloo about people using electronic cigarettes on planes and on public transport where smoking traditional cigarettes has been banned.  The knee jerk reaction from the companies and the government has been to start banning electronic cigarettes from those areas where traditional electronic cigarettes are also banned.

So why is this happening…. Should Electronic Cigarettes be Banned?

Well, to me, this is absolutely ludicrous.  As a user of electronic cigarettes I believe that companies are not understanding how electronic cigarettes actually work.  Ecigs contain a solution that is heated into a vapor meaning that the user is inhaling about 99% water. The vapor or ‘smoke’ produced from the electronic cigarette or exhaled by the user will dissipate into the air within seconds.  Thus, not aggravating people around you.  It is totally non-intrusive and odourless.  I personally think that the hysteria has been caused by the fact that many electronic cigarettes, including my preferred choice the safe cig, are very realistic and ‘vaping’ as it is called on one of these can look to passers-by like I’m smoking the real thing.  The water vapor looks so realistic at times that my wife has even questioned whether I’ve started Smoking again.  Only to realize it’s actually ‘the safe cig’ in my hand!  So its not surprising that people in public places may complain about the use of ecigs.  Particularly on planes, I can see why members of the public may become alarmed if they see a passenger using what appears to be a tobacco cigarette but is actually an ecig.
Tobacco Cigarettes are a known to be hazardous and can cause cancer for others who are around people smoking through passive smoking. They have quite rightly been banned from most public places across America and Europe.  However, Electronic cigarettes have in some places been tarred with the same brush and those who do not understand them have moved to block their use on public transport.  Unfortunately, until members of the public and the government become more informed about the benefits of Vaping the bans will more than likely stay in place.

Even if the powers that be decide that should electronic cigarettes be banned I still see Vaping as the answer to a smokers worries and needs.  Retain the pleasure that smoking brings without the associated health hazards. After all the added health benefits of using electronic cigarettes I have also saved a fortune.  For the cost benefit alone, electronic cigarettes have been a revelation for me.
